“WEST COAST” Finals!


The West Coast Hot Rod Association returned to AAA Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., on Sept 8th for the final event of the Kings Oil Tools, 2012 season Presented by MagnaFuel and the final of Three single-day events held in conjunction with the AAA Auto Club Famoso Raceway and their “Saturday Night Nitro” Nostalgia Nitro Series Presented by Budweiser.

The Sept 8th event would be another record breaking event for all involved,on and off the track!!! Once again our spectator attendance exceeded 3000!,largest field of Nostalgia Nitro Cars and a new WCHRA 1/8th mile TT5 Drag Radial record of 4.665 @ 161.88 mph laid down by Al Jiminez in his Big Block ProCharged 72 Camaro and a new OUTLAW 8.5 Record of 5.267 @ 142.25 mph by George Raygoza in his BBC N2o Powered 68 Nova rollin on M/T Tires !

With full field of Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars along with exhibition Front Engined Top Fuel ,Fuel Altered ,Jet Cars, Index(Gassers), Brackets,Wild Heads-Up Small Tired Doorslammers and Championships being decided on the last pass of the event, the fans were treated to a full day and night of exciting Drag Racing along with some folks around the world enjoying the Live Feed courtesy of WCHRA and quartermile productions!

TRUE 10.5 Mickey Thompson Tires and Speedwire sponsor the quickest and fastest of the “Small Tire” Heads-Up classes in the WCHRA,with the Points Championship being decided the racers in TT5 and the MagnaFuel / Heads-Up Motorsports / VORTECH Superchargers X275 elected to run as one class and pay back further, once again, two of the quickest cars in the WCHRA battled for the Brandt Racing Ent. #1 Qualifier Bonus in the heat of the day and 145+ track Temps, after two rounds of qualifying Al Jiminez and his ProCharged BBC Camaro would take the top spot with a 4.741 followed by Rich Hoyle SBC N2o 4.781 ,Norm Chang TTSBF Mustang 4.980 ,Jeff Kyle Turbocharged SBF Mustang 4.986 ,Johnny Coleman BBC ProCharged 69 Camaro 5.429 ,Mike Orban’s nitrous BBC ‘68 Camaro 5.440 ,Roger Rydell in Ron Odo’s BBC N/A 68 Camaro 5.481 ,Kelly Henry Vortech Supercharged BBC Fox Body and Jermain Boddie’s 63 Nova 7.149.

Eliminations :
Round 1: Jeff Kyle .173 4.852 @ 153.12 over Roger Rydell’s .070 5.438 @ 129….. Rich Hoyles .089 4.73 @ 151 over Boddies .041 5.21 @ 145……Mike Orban .117 5.309 @ 140 over Johnny Coleman .117 7.03 @ 72….Norm Chang would get a single and advance .438 4.91 @ 155 when Kelly Henry couldn’t make the call and Al Jiminez would advance with a potential record pass of 4.677 @ 161.88!!

Round 2: Hoyle would advance with the laddered bye run .072 7.831 @ 78 and Clinch the 2012 TT5 Championship!…Up next was Norman Chang and Jeff Kyle in a battle of SBF Turbocharged Mustangs,Norm’s .013 4.91 @ 156 took out Jeff’s .113 5.16 @ 142 and in the final pair it was Jiminez over Orban .219 4.665 @ 161 vs .030 5.235 @ 140 and the new E.T. and Mph Record for Al Jiminez and Team!

Semi: Al Jiminez and Rich Hoyle..the New Champ vs the New Record Holder,Hoyle would get a slight advantage at the tree .030 to .047 but then he struck the tires and Jiminez posted another 4.67 @ 160 taking the Win over Hoyles 4.928 @ 149……Chang would have the single into the Final .506 4.88 @ 153

Finals: The final would be a close battle,Norm took the advantage at the tree .038 to .081 and it was a side by side race with Jiminez taking the Win 4.773 @ 143 over Norm’s 4.867 @ 155 mph!….CONGRATS to Rich Hoyle 2012 WCHRA TRUE 10.5 CHAMPION!!!
OUTLAW 8.5

The SCE Gaskets (www.scegaskets.com) / Chris Alston’s Chassisworks sponsored class finished the season of with another great turnout of 18 entries matching July’s count and our 2nd best car count ever! There was a close points battle going into the Finals with 4 racers still in contention for the Championship,Gary Brandt,Tom Daugherty and the Teams of Mark Washington/John Fields and Eric Gustafson/Theo Dec! In qualifying it was X275 Racer George Raygoza bolting on some M/T 8.5’s and taking the Brandt Racing Ent. #1 Qualifier Bonus with a potential Record Setting 5.284 @ 142!! ..in the #2 spot was Cedric Washington followed Mark Washington, Gary Brandt ,Theo Dec,Tom Daugherty,Ron Shaw, Mike Saiki, Jim DiMaggio, Kevin Watson, Gordon Saiki, Adam Noyes, Toby Jacksen, Anthony Smith, Dan Hale, Jon McGovern, Chad McGee and Allen Gadsberry.

Eliminations:
Round 1: Gary Brandt would advance to rd 2 with a .083 5.51 @ 126 mph over Dan Hales .073 6.75 @ 79…Next would be Raygoza with a Class Record .162 5.267 @ 142 over Gadsberry 7.09 @ 111….Mark Washington over McGovern 5.35 to 6.34…Toby Jacksen over Daugherty 6.13 to N/T when his trans brake didn’t hold and it broke the beams ending his chance at the championship…..Cedric over Chad 5.34 to 6.00….Theo Dec over Anthony Smith 5.36 to 5.89 keeping his championship hopes alive….Kevin Watson over DiMaggio 5.75 to 5.77….Adam Noyes over Ron Shaw 5.97 to Broke…The Final pair was to be Father vs Son,Gordon and Mike Saiki….neither one would make the round.

ROUND 2: Brandt kept his Championship hopes alive and put the pressure on the others by advancing over Noyes,.077 5.48 @ 128 to .050 5.89 @ 125……Theo would also advance over Jacksen with the Teams Personal Best 5.274 @ 136….Cedric Washington over Watson 5.55 to 5.71…..Raygoza advanced with a broken single 5.81 @ 131 and Mark Washington would get the laddered bye advancing with a 5.419 @ 134 mph.

ROUND 3: Two of the Championship Contenders would face each other,Gary Brandt could lock up the Title with a round win and Mark Washington would need to Win the Round and the Event!..It was Washington away first .075 to .090 for Gary and Mark would hold the lead and take the Win 5.357 @ 134 over Brandts 5.476 @ 129…..Next up was Theo and Raygoza,it was a must win round for Theo and he did the job taking the win right at the line when George Redlighted! .048 5.32 @ 135 to -.082 6.26 @ 89….Cedric Washington advanced with a laddered single.

SEMI’S: Mark Washington would get the laddered single into the Final running 5.32 @ 134 keeping his Championship hopes alive if he could Win the Final and set the E.T. Record! …Theo vs Cedric…Theo needed to advance to the Final and Win the race to take the Class Championship,Cedric wanted to end those chances!…at the tree it was Theo away first .069 to .093 and he would take the Holeshot Win over Cedric in a great side by side race..5.308 @ 135.82 to 5.303 @ 137.48!!!!

FINALS: The finals would be for the Championship! All 3 involved were present on the startingline at 2am!..Theo and Mark staged at the line and Gary Brandt standing behind waiting for the outcome! Theo in Eric Gustafsons ProCharged ls-1 69 Camaro vs Mark Washington in John Fields SBF nitrous Fox Body with both cars within .020 the previous round..When the tree flashed it was Theo with the Holeshot! .034 to .117! …but Mark would close the gap when the Camaro fell off early and they would stay side by side until just before the finish line stripe where Theo would just get around him for the holeshot Win and Class Championship!! 5.410 @ 136.10 over Marks 5.349 @ 134.55!!!…Congrats to R&E Racing… Team Owner Ron Gustafson… Eric Gustafson Owner/Driver…Theo Dec Team Driver….for your 2012 WCHRA OUTLAW 8.5 CHAMPIONSHIP Awesome job to you all! B/GAS (8.60): Once again 2011 Champion Casey Treur in his 33 Willy’s taking the WCHRA #1 Qualifier bonus with an 8.602!. In the final it was newcomer Richard Deuschle getting the Win,over a Wes Anderson who broke on the line .058 8.657 to .319 N/T…..CONGRATS to Doug Crumlich 2012 WCHRA B/GAS CHAMPION!!

C/GAS (9.60): It was the 27 Ford of Ernie McAllister took the MD Plumbing #1 Qualifier Bonus with a 9.602!. In the final it was a repeat of the July event with Larry Burnitzki over Redlighting Mark Miyashiro .023 9.593 to -.003 9.592….CONGRATS to Jordan Jahnke 2012 WCHRA C/GAS CHAMPION!!

D/GAS (10.60): Sponsored by Engine Dynamics and we fielded 8 cars, Lori Dodes took the WCHRA #1 Qualifier Bonus in her 97 S-10 with a 10.608!…In the Final round it would be David Roed’s 63 Chevy II taking the Win over Steve Barta’s 62 Chevy II .033 10.68 TO .091 10.63…..CONGRATS to Wesley Eisenga 2012 WCHRA D/GAS CHAMPION!!

E/GAS (11.60): There were 14 cars competing, Morgan Wiggers took the MD Plumbing #1 Qualifier Bonus with an 11.601!. Morgan would also make it to the Final to face James Brown, James would take the Win over Wiggers .151 11.86 to .137 11.91 CONGRATS to James Brown 2012 E/GAS CHAMPIONSHIP…Congrats!!
